military culture
The HMVET employee resource group takes the lead on training on military culture and structure, etc. They work very closely with our recruiting team on providing resources to utilize during the recruitment process in terms of military education such as a military rank structure spreadsheet, MOS guide for Army jobs and suggested fits in Hormel Foods operations roles, and the best-practice of having prior service employees participate in military recruiting events.
From a military culture standpoint:
- Our SPAM Museum has 20% of the space dedicated to our history of support for the military by our company (all new hires received a tour of this museum during their first week of employment).
- We have helmet stickers available for our plant professionals to wear to self-identify as a veteran.
- We hold an annual company ceremony on Veterans Day.
- We hold an annual military-themed essay contest for local 6th grade classrooms.
