1. Gabriel "Gabe" Morgan, Sr., Sheriff, Newport News Sheriff's Office -- US Army veteran
Leads the organization; sets the vision for the agency; is the agency's voice for discussions with state and federal lawmakers on topics like deputy pay and benefits, crime legislation, etc.
2. Lt. Col. Jeff Vergakis, Chief of Finance and Admin. Services -- US Air Force veteran
Lead person for agency budget needs, oversees Human Resources, IT, Administration, Inmate workforce and other areas as directed by the sheriff
3. Major David Hughes, Chief of Professional Standards -- US Air Force veteran
Oversees recruitment, retention, training, special operations, employee conduct (such as the use of force and other internal investigations), policy accreditation. He maintains the General Orders Manual of written directives based on nationally-accepted practices and standards as a reference for all employees.
