military connected assistance

All employees are introduced to our Employee Resource Groups; we have dedicated ERG Groups to Veterans, LGBT, people of color and women. On January 1, 2020 Consumers Energy created and staffed a position to support our Veteran community. The Senior Veterans Affairs consultant will be the liaison between our Veterans and management. In addition, they will serve as a certifying official for our on-the-job-training and apprenticeship programs ensuring that GI Bill paperwork is processed and submitted in a timely manner. This person will also partner with our Veterans Advisory Panel and other Employee Resource Groups deliver mental health and personal well-being resources to our Veterans and other employees.

We offer tuition assistance or other financial support toward the preparation, attainment, and/or maintaining of an academic or professional certificate, degree, or another civilian credential,We offer apprenticeships, internships, or other formalized, structured training program/s to assist with the attainment of a civilian credentialWe offer five Dept. of Labor apprenticeships, as well as several other opportunities for employees to earn certificates/credentials. The apprenticeships are electrical lines, Substation Operations, Substation Maintenance, Meter Operations, and Renewable Energy Specialist. All end in a journeyman card/certification. In addition, we offer Commercial Drivers License Training, OSHA certifications, and several other job specific credentials.
