military culture

At Comcast NBCUniversal, we strive to create a welcoming culture for our military community employees and we know this begins with creating awareness and understanding across the entire company. To help provide background and informational content on military culture, Comcast NBCUniversal developed an internal e-book called the Military Community Roadmap that is available for all employees to access. We especially promote this block of training to better inform senior leaders, hiring managers, recruiters and human resource professionals.

Another way we cultivate awareness on military culture is through our employee resource groups, which often collaborate on events. With our Veterans Network working together with other groups across the company, our resource groups collectively build stronger connections between military community employees and their colleagues.

Our company has also partnered with the PsychArmor Institute to sponsor its Courses for Employers Who Invest in Military Talent. We encourage our own employees as well as outside organizations to take these virtual classes to better understand veterans in the workplace.

We've also partnered with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and PsychArmor to create and maintain the Veterans at Work Certificate Program that teaches best practices to attract, hire and retain veterans. The program is available online, free, and open to all HR professionals worldwide, including those at Comcast NBCUniversal.

Additionally, we offer employees access to Reinventing Michael Banks, an online simulation and learning tool that helps veterans, their families and employers address the challenges of transitioning from active-duty service to civilian employment.

military spouse recruitment and hiring

We include military spouses in our military hiring and retention goals at Comcast NBCUniversal. We recognize that service extends beyond those who wore a uniform, which is why we are committed to hiring military spouses along with veterans and
National Guard and reserve members.

For military spouses, we have a relocation assistance program for those who must move for a military-related reason. This includes a guaranteed interview (if relocating to a location in the Comcast NBCUniversal footprint), connections with talent teams from our partner companies (if out of footprint), or a generous transition package.

To best support our National Guard and Reserve and military spouse employees, we also have a Military Concierge Service Team, which assists employees and their families to better understand our enhanced benefits and policies. This team of experts helps military-connected employees and military spouses navigate the transition between Comcast NBCUniversal and their military duties. This allows for the company to provide support to employees and their families and their managers before, during, and after a military deployment or activation (for guard/reserve employees) and before a move (military spouses).

We've been recognized for our efforts in supporting military spouses. We are “Chairman’s Circle” sponsor of HoH’s MilitarySpouse Employment Advisory Committee (MSEAC) and HoH’s Veteran Employment Advisory Committee (VEAC). We are one of the founding supporters of HoH’s Military Spouse initiative to hire 100,000 Military Spouses by the end of 2021. We are also a longtime Partner Employer with the Department of Defense’s Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), connecting us with thousands of military spouses across the globe. We have supported MSEP’s annual meeting, including thought leadership (we had key speaking roles in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 MSEP Annual Meetings). New MSEP Partner Employers seek out advice from our Military & Veteran Affairs team to learn best practices as Partner Employers and maximize their reach to military spouses. Additionally, Comcast NBCUniversal was named the 2017 #1 Military Spouse Friendly
Employer by Military Spouse magazine.

military caregiver policy

We recognize and commit our support to our military caregiver employees in several ways at Comcast NBCUniversal. Not only do these employees qualify for FMLA, but we have also aided in relocating military caregivers who must move to better care for their loved ones.
We have also partnered with the Hiring Our Heroes Caregiver Fellowship Program, a new initiative that provides caregivers of wounded warriors with professional training, networking, and hands-on experience in the civilian workforce. We are working to place caregivers in Comcast roles in 2020.

Additionally, Comcast is the presenting sponsor of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation's Hidden Heroes Cities program, which provides support to military caregivers and the challenges they face. NBC's TODAY Show Co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is also an ambassador for the organization, which is featured in the morning show's programming a couple of times per year.

Additionally, we sponsor and participate in the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s “Supporting Military Caregivers in the Workforce” initiative, which builds training tools for employers
to hire military caregivers.

We offer continuous professional development and networking opportunities for our military
community employees, such as our annual Military Influencer and Leadership Development
(MILDev) Symposium. This program offers veterans, military spouses, National Guard and
reserve members, and military supporters a chance to come together from across the company to participate in a multi-day professional experience that includes mentorship, networking and leadership development.

We also organize special military recognition programming throughout the company, such
as during National Veterans and Military Families Month in November, when we honor
our military-connected teammates through special events and communications. We
also support military employee engagement and involvement with military and veteran
serving organizations.

Comcast NBCUniversal also funds joint programming between the Veterans Network and other employee resource groups to host events. Some highlights from 2019 include a lunch and learn for women veterans and hosting an event featuring Tuskegee Airmen.

When it comes to our National Guard and reserve employees, we offer added support
