description
As the first truly modern media company, AT&T has been changing the way people live, work and play for the past 144 years. Most recently, the company added WarnerMedia to reshape the world of technology, media and telecommunications. Today, we’re shaping the future with premium content, high-speed networks, direct-to-consumer relationships and an advanced ad technology platform. AT&T and its employees are united by a shared desire to inspire progress and change the world for the better.
military culture
AT&T hires veterans and their families because of their unique experience and skillsets.
We were one of the first corporate partners to join the Veteran Jobs Mission, an effort launched in 2011 to hire 100,000 veterans and their families and military members leaving active duty by 2020. The Veteran Jobs Mission hiring goal has been raised to 1 million. There are now more than 200 corporate leading member companies. Between 2011 and 2018, the coalition has collectively hired more than 594,000 veterans.
We post job openings on many websites that reach service families across the country. We also attend veteran career fairs, and we network with national and local veteran services organizations to promote our career opportunities. We recruit student veterans and junior military officers into our leadership, technician and business sales development programs. We work with our AT&T Veterans employee resource group (ERG) members who serve as recruitment ambassadors to attract military talent to AT&T. AT&T’s Veterans ERG has existed for over 35 years and has over 8,000 members in 39 chapters across the country. It provides an instant community for employee veterans and their families to continue their service by engaging in volunteer activities in their communities.
Plain and simple, veterans make our company better. They understand teamwork, adapt quickly and have strong leadership and technical skills. We value the creativity and problem-solving skills they bring to the table.
We offer peace of mind for our military employees who are called to serve our country by providing them differential pay and other benefits for their family while deployed. They also can have the ability to return to the company at the same level or higher as their previous job.
military spouse recruitment and hiring
AT&T is dedicated to our veterans and their family members. We began asking candidates to self-identify as veterans or military family members to encourage/support and appreciate their contribution to our country.
We recognize the value military spouses bring to our business and celebrate their contribution to AT&T and our country.
- Since 2016, we have hosted employer panel discussions with the MSEP (Military Spouse Employment Partnership) on various social media platforms to include including LinkedIn, Facebook and via online webinars.
- Using our social media channels, we’ve highlighted our own MilSpouse employees, encouraging them to share their success stories and experiences.
AT&T partners with Military Spouse organizations who support those with an interest in technology. Many of our AT&T Veterans employee group chapters support programs for the spouses of deployed employees (most do not live on a base and do not receive normal spouse support from the military). Finally, our AT&T Veterans employee group volunteers frequently participate in fundraising and support activities providing for spouses raising families after the loss of a military member (such as Gold Star Kids for College) and spouses caring for Medically Discharged or Disabled Veterans (such as Help Starts Here).

civilian credential support
We offer tuition assistance or other financial support toward the preparation, attainment, and/or maintaining of an academic or professional certificate, degree, or another civilian credentialWe expect app development, computer analytics, data science and all aspects of cloud computing to be the most in-demand jobs of the future. As part of our Future Ready initiative, we developed the Transformation Learning Series for employees to learn and grow alongside us to meet the needs of these roles. The series has three topic areas:
• Network covers topics like Software Defined Networking and 5G.
• Advanced and Emerging Technologies explores artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation.
At AT&T, we invest about $200 million each year in our Future Ready initiative, offering employees relevant internal skills development, online master’s degrees, specialized nanodegrees and certification.
Our training and development platforms support nearly 16 million hours of training annually through the award-winning platform. Open to all employees, trainings range from comprehensive leadership development to programs designed for our Future Ready workforce transformation. AT&T’s workforce can complete online courses ranging from data and computer science to cybersecurity and Agile project management.
An aspect of our Future Ready initiative is the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) classes available through our expanding external partnerships with Coursera and Udacity. Our employees have access to a wide variety of technical and nontechnical online courses and credentials, and we see great engagement with this wide range of offerings.
One of our university partnerships is with Georgia Tech. An Online MS Computer Science degree costs less than traditional programs where a student attends in person. The University of Oklahoma and the University of Notre Dame are two more schools with which we partner to provide flexible, low-cost higher education. Last year, we announced a partnership with North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to provide access to master’s programs in business administration, information technology and technology management. This is our first partnership with a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). We’ve also launched an online bachelor’s program in cybersecurity through Champlain College. We recently announced our partnership with a Hispanic Serving Institution through the University of Texas El Paso Systems Engineering master’s degree program. All courses are taught online, and the average length of each degree is two years. The program is an ideal choice for professionals who want to perfect their skills while learning how to manage large projects. The program curriculum can also give engineers an advantage in earning their Associate/Certified Systems Engineering Professional certification.
We also partner with major institutions and schools, allotting over $24 million annually in tuition assistance. For managers, we offer up to $8,000 in tuition reimbursement per year.
