military culture
We have an in person, instructor led “The Value of a Veteran” Hiring Manager training that we provide to various business units across our sites. This is not mandatory, but has been conducted across BU’s across the enterprise. Staff and HR partners also attend. In person sessions are co-instructed by a local veteran employee who is part of the organization being trained. We also made a web-based version of this training that is housed on our Enterprise LMS “Learning Connection”.
military spouse recruitment and hiring
In 2014 we modified our VETalent work-study program to include military spouses. Today approximately 50% of each cohort is military spouses. In addition to VETalent, we sponsor and support the Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Professional Networks at FT Bliss and Jacksonville FL. These has created an excellent opportunity for hiring managers to engage with military spouse talent in low-stress situations and has yielded hires. Perhaps our biggest success though has come from our remote work capability. Since inception in 2015, we now have approximately 1/3 of our military spouse employees working from remote locations, continuing in the same professional role and career path as they had when they were in one of our office locations. Two military spouses have worked remote since “day one” and both have been with the company for several years now and continue to be positive case studies for remote work. We have found that offering remote work opportunities related to a PCS or ETS move, has created loyal and productive employees with excellent retention and performance.
