VCU is home to one of the largest university police departments in the country, with 99 sworn officers, more than 200 security personnel, an on-campus dispatch center and an accredited training academy.

Collaboration, partnerships and problem-solving are essential to public safety at VCU. The VCU Police Department works closely with local and federal law enforcement entities to create a safe learning and working environment for students, faculty and staff.

civilian credential support

We offer apprenticeships, internships, or other formalized, structured training program/s to assist with the attainment of a civilian credentialWe provide all necessary training in-house to get their Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement certification. We also have an apprenticeship program that allows us to hire candidates prior to the start of our Basic Police Academy to help them transition into the field and is fully accredited through the Virginia Department of Labor.
