description

Xcel Energy is a major U.S. regulated electric and natural gas delivery company serving 3.6 million electric and 2 million natural gas customers across eight states. Based in Minneapolis, we are a recognized industry leader in delivering renewable energy and in reducing carbon and other emissions, efforts that have put us on a path to a more sustainable energy future. We are the first major U.S. energy provider to announce an aspiration to serve customers with 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050. More than 1 in 10 of our employees is a military veteran. We are a proud partner of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and we have been named a Top 100 military-friendly employer for the past eight years.

military culture

Online computer based training through Value of a Veteran was provided as optional to hiring leaders/managers and mandatory for Talent Acquisition recruiters and recruiter coordinators. The veteran consultant also provides specific training with business units for particular roles or hiring initiatives that open up. Within the company there is currently a new internal mentor program being formed to assist with career pathway building. There are also rotational leadership positions offered throughout the enterprise learning team as well as having the veteran business resource group which offers informal mentorship opportunities. We see that the veteran retention for 2018 hires to 2019 hires was 91% due to the inclusive military culture we foster through veteran volunteer activities, Veteran's Day event and challenge coin distribution, and company support to currently serving members.
