military culture

All employees are required to take several training courses that discuss military culture and highlight U.S. Bank’s commitment to supporting veterans. This includes Unconscious Bias and Culture and Identity training courses. We also have targeted resources and trainings for HR, recruiters and hiring managers which includes our internal veteran hiring resources page and custom trainings help employees better understand veterans and their transferrable skills. In addition, through our Proud to Serve Business Resource Group (BRG), we provide informal training for all employees within the organization that is available at any time. In 2019, we delivered 150+ military events for employees including sessions on advancing your career and translating resumes. Also, in 2019, more than 200 of U.S. Bank’s top leaders learned about agility and leadership from a veteran keynote speaker at our annual leadership offsite.

military spouse recruitment and hiring

We are a member of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) and actively recruit military spouses. Our efforts include working with nearby military bases, family readiness offices and transition assistance programs, as well as participating in career fairs for military spouses. We also support our employees who are military spouses. Employees can update their military spouse status in our HR system of record at any time. In addition, through our Proud to Serve BRG, we have a custom onboarding experience for all new military spouses that includes a welcome email with pertinent information and invites to events that might be beneficial. We also give special consideration to employee requests for internal transfers made necessary by reassignments of spouses who are in the military and, as part of our expansive military leave policy, we offer paid military family/exigency leave related to a spouse’s deployment.

military caregiver policy

Through Proud to Serve, we offer events that are beneficial and open to anyone who is connected to the military, including caregivers. We’ve held several events that specifically address the unique needs and circumstances for military caregivers, including our Memorial Day keynote speaker in 2019, Jill Stephenson, a Gold Star Mother. In addition, as part of our expansive military leave policy, we offer paid military family/exigency leave for spouses/domestic partners, children or parents.

military connected assistance

U.S. Bank is focused on the growth and development of our employees and has programs and resources to aid in the retention and advancement of diverse employees. This includes our Women’s advancement initiative, African American and Hispanic leadership summits, and our robust military deployment and onboarding programs. Intersectionality is woven into all of our retention strategies, and we’re continually focused on ensuring everything from our topics and speakers to venues and catering are intentionally selected and support our strategies. Our military and veteran retention strategy is focused on supporting all diverse segments, military family members and those currently serving in the military, as well as connecting and celebrating all employees who are connected to veterans and the military. We do this through ongoing, high-touch communications, community involvement efforts, visibility to senior leadership and internal employee programs and events.

senior leadership

We have several military connected employees in senior leadership roles at U.S. Bank, including members of the National Guard and Reserve as well as veterans and military spouses/partners. Many of them play an active role in mentoring other military-connected employees, as well as serving as advocates and leaders of our Proud to Serve Business Resource Group. In addition, we have two full time roles at U.S. Bank focused on our military and veteran employee and customer efforts.
