New employees attend 3 days of orientation which includes an entire day dedicated to learning about service members. This day includes an introduction to who we serve, the military lifestyle, deployment, a military panel consisting of veterans that work at USAA, and a capstone event where new employees get to see through the eyes of our service members and experience what it’s like to walk in their shoes. Additional immersive activities include- eating MREs, discussing everyday challenges faced by our service members.
Another opportunity for training on military structure is through USAA’s VETNet Zero Day PT. This event allows USAA employees to participate in a military boot camp experience. The five-hour physical training experience provides employees a better understanding and appreciation of the members they serve.

military spouse recruitment and hiring

USAA partners with Hiring Our Heroes to participate in the Military Spouse Fellowship Program (MSFP). The MSFP is a first-in-class initiative that connects military spouses and domestic partners to paid 6 week fellowships that provide professional training, networking, and hands-on experience. This engagement enables military spouses and domestic partners to quickly build their networks and gain localized job experience. Through this impactful fellowship program, USAA has been able to achieve a 91 percent job offer rate. The MSFP works hand in hand with the Military Spouse Economic Empowerment Zones (MSEEZ) and Military Spouse Professional Networks (MSPN).
