military culture

Booz Allen Hamilton was founded over 100 years ago by a veteran, Edwin Booz. Today, approximately 1/3 of our employees are military connected. The value military connected talent brings to our organization is highlighted during orientation and re-emphasized during recurring training that takes place throughout the year. The value that military connected talent brings to our firm was recently shared by our CEO, Horacio Rozanski: “One of the great privileges of working at Booz Allen is the opportunity to work alongside so many veterans, military family members, and members of the National Guard and Reserve. Nearly a third of our firm served in the Armed Forces, still serves, or is a military spouse, and I’m proud that you’ve chosen to bring your talents here. Whether you’re continuing a mission through your client work with the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, or Intelligence Community, or bringing your unique experience and perspective to bear with other federal or commercial clients or inside Booz Allen, I simply want to say, thank you.”

military spouse recruitment and hiring

The Military Spouse Network (MSN) paved the way for Booz Allen to break down employment barriers for military spouses who regularly relocate every 1 to 3 years due to their spouses’ service in the U.S. military. Our firm maintains an 80% retention rate with military spouses despite the high mobility of this group. Booz Allen has always taken pride in serving military clients and employing veterans, and with the aid of this group, the firm now also proudly acknowledges, supports, and advocates for military spouses, as well.
The MSN developed practical career resources and programming to support career mobility (retention and development) for military spouse employees. Resources included a Military Spouse Handbook and fact sheets for managers who want to hire and employ military spouses. Programming included sending welcome packages and hosting events to share best practices for keeping their jobs at Booz Allen as they relocated. The MSN operated under the philosophy that if they could help even one military spouse hire or help one military spouse stay with the firm through relocation, it would be worth the effort. In reality, the MSN helped drive the hires of many and helped retain many. The network that began as a grassroots effort in 2013 now supports more than 750 military spouses at Booz Allen who regularly relocate across the country and around the globe.

Feedback from our veterans about these initiatives include: “I’ve worked for 3 companies over the last 20 years. Nobody has ever done something like this for me. It made me feel appreciated.” “I am so happy and proud to be part the Booz Allen firm.
